Biodanza for older people
Biodanza is for everyone, but some groups of people can gain especially positive benefits. Learn more about Maria’s special workshop sessions with older people.
Biodanza offers an effective and meaningful way to support the emotional and social needs of older people.
As a gentle and enjoyable form of movement, it helps maintain vitality, muscle tone, coordination and fine motor skills. Sessions are carefully designed to stimulate physical functioning while remaining accessible and uplifting.
At an emotional level, Biodanza nurtures dignity, self-esteem and a sense of being valued. It strengthens identity and personhood — for older adults both with and without dementia — through creative self-expression and shared experience.
Because Biodanza is largely non-verbal, it provides a powerful means of communication beyond words. Even when speech is limited, participants can connect through movement, music and presence. This fosters meaningful social interaction, reduces isolation and can help protect against depression in later life.
Each session follows a different theme, offering gentle intellectual stimulation for those whose cognitive abilities remain intact, while still being inclusive for those experiencing cognitive decline.
Sensitive and appropriate touch — always offered with care and respect — supports reassurance, validation and emotional grounding, helping participants remain connected to themselves and the world around them.
